Black Box around video

I am trying to make an animation that fades in when the page comes into view. I understand that I have to do this with the video feature, but there is a black box around the animation on the page. Is there a way to make the the black box transparent? Or is this only possible with HTML5?

Thank you,

Shannon

Hello Shannon,

It sounds like the black box you are referring to is the letterboxing of your video within the frame you have it placed in. To avoid this you'll want to make the frame in InDesign the same dimensions as your video file. Keep in mind that pixels measurements are slightly different in InDesign vs web/mobile app screen pixels so it may take some trial and error to get it just right but if you create your video frame in InDesign to be the same aspect ratio as your video that should help with the letterboxing, then it will just be a matter of how large you want the frame to be.

If you have any follow-up questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Is there an easier way to have text fade into view? I tried a movie but the it is very blurry. I also tried the feature builder using an image sequence and this didn't seem to work either. A slideshow is the only way I can get this to easily work, but I can't get the text to slowly fade in. I am wondering if there is an easier way to go about this?

Hi Shannon,

Using the Slideshow feature you cause set the interval time between slides as well as the transition time in-between transitions. Once you have your Slideshow Object built you will select the "Fade In" Transition type, then "Auto Play" and finally the Interval and Transition Duration options will become available at the bottom of your Object Panel.
