Review is blurry / low resolution

Hi! I am experiencing low resolution text and images when I review on my iPad (fourth generation 2012, not retina). I have an apple iPad document and I tried putting the text on different layers with the same result – low resolution/blurry text. I have tried both fast review and full review. Same result when reviewing from both the production tool and directly from InDesign. I have tried output PNG images only – no effect. I have tried Universal iPad MIB on and off – no effect. It just looks like both images and text are resampled to a resolution that is much lower than it should (screenshot attached). What am I doing wrong here?

Hello there,

From your supplied screenshot, this seems to be an expected output result on the standard definition 132ppi non-retina iPad. Within your 'Designd Settings' panel, do you have 'Downscale Images Using Photoshop' enabled? Try turning that off and see if that makes a difference afterwards.

I tried that without effect as well. However, choosing iPad Retina did the trick. Everything, images and text, now looks crisp as a day. I am confused by this though as my iPad does not have a retina display.

Great, glad to hear you're seeing better results now. The reason why it's sharper is because the retina template is outputting the content at 264ppi rather than 132ppi which is higher resolution. Even on the non-retina display, this will make a difference.
