Comixology style Navigation

Hello,

I would like to know if there is a way to allow the user to navigate a page, in this case, a graphic novel or comic book like Marvel Comics or DC comics do using the Comixology engine?  Basically when the user taps the screen, The page zooms to fit each panel the publishers want you to view.  Tap again and the page scrolls smoothly to the next panel in the story and so on.  If you don't understand what I'm asking, just download the Marvel Comics app for iPad and try one of their free books.

Thanks,

Gary

Hi Gary -

I do know that technology - it's very cool. Unfortunately, that's a proprietary engine that they have developed and license out. If we built that into Mag+, we would have to charge for it to recoup the license and the cost of implementation and maintenance. As it is really developed for comics, which have a panel-based flow to them, we have not had any demand from our clients for it . If that changes, we'd happily take a look at it.

As I am new to Mag+ development, wouldn't it be possible to do this in Adobe Edge or Tumult Hype and then embed that into the magazine?

Thanks for your response.

Sort of - if you can build it in HTML, you can embed it in the Mag+ page, so you could essentially make each page (or vertical as we call them) a big HTML element with this navigation functionality; you'd just have to still swipe to get to the next vertical.

The other option would be to use our Reader SDK, which basically gives you the code for our reader app and lets you build whatever you want into it. So you could do a version of the Mag+ reader with the Comixology engine inside.  http://www.magplus.com/features-price/software-development-kit/
