Auto-Calculator (1.83) on Feature Builder

Originally from ticket #3889.

Hi Mag+

I was wondering if there was a possibility of you putting an automated calculator on the feature builder site that times by 1.83.

It is very time consuming working on a calculator when I'm multiplying by the same figure.

It would be great if I could type in my content dimensions in the feature 'Info & Size' section and have the ability to click a button that multiplies the width and height by 1.83.

Just a thought which may be useful for a lot more Mag+ users.

Thanks

Hi Hannah -

That is a good idea, and we've talked about ways to better automate that conversion, especially now that we're about to start supporting multiple devices with different resolutions (iPad Retina, Kindle Fire, iPhone), the number won't always be 1.83, so maybe we could add a "Target Device" menu that would do the right math for the right device. We'll raise it with our developers - stay tuned!

Hi Mag+,

What is the number we should multiply things by for the Retina?  Will we need to create two html elements in feature builder--one for the regular iPad using 1.83 and one for Retina using another number?

Retina is 266ppi, so it looks like the multiplier is 3.69. (just remember InDesign is showing things at 72ppi, so you have to divide your target resolution by that to get the number).

Got it, thanks!  One more question. Do you need to do this for any of the features in feature builder or just the slideshow? I tried using the multiplier for the pinch and zoom feature but it just came in too large.

With Feature Builder it's a little tricky because it's converting your images for you. One way to do it is to output your normal feature builder thing, but then go back and replace all the images with 266ppi versions - keep them in the same place and same name so the .html doc can find them, but make them higher res for the higher-res screen.

We'll be revising feature builder soon to account for this - just a bit of manual stuff in the meantime.

Hi there,

Are there any news on the proposed features in feature builder?

We are hanig trouble with image resolutions in iphones...

So i guess if the iphone is 326 ppi, the multiplier must be  4,52. Am I right?

Thanks
