Separate test device settings for issues

Originally from ticket #3339.

Hello,

This is more of an idea for your future developments, not an actual request for assistance.

While trying to get various media to review our magazine app, we bumped into the problem that the promo codes offered by Apple are useless in our case since the app itself is free, but you cannot get promo codes for the in-app puchases.

I understand that if I set the would-be reviewer's UDID as a Test Device in Publish, he/she can download our issues, but then he/she'll get every single issue until I delete his/her device.

I wonder if you thought about adding a feature to Publish that allows to set up separate Test Devices for separate issues, in addition to the already existing "general" test devices? I guess it would be helpful for other publishers as well, since as far as I know Apple doesn't really care about adding promo codes for in-app purchases.

I hope you find this idea useful.

Best regards,

Peter

Hi Peter,

I moved your question here because I believe others might be interested in this as well.

We are working on a solution for what you want to do in future updates of Publish.

Thanks Anders,

Do you have any idea about an approximate timetable for this feature? We're planning our promotions and it'd be useful to know.

Best regards,

Peter

Hey Peter -

Sorry for the delay in reply here. We don't have a specific timeframe for this yet - it's surprisingly complicated to do on the backend, however we will definitely get it and we're targeting this summer for it. One way around it would be to use our subscription API, which allows you to build in a sign-in window into the app, which can take either a log-in or even a promotional code, and control the entitlements associated with that code or account in your own database or with your own fulfillment house if you have one. If you're interested in that, I've attached an overview document here.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply and info! I'll take a look.

Of course it would be all so easier if Apple would finally allow promo codes for in-apps as well... :)

Best regards

Peter
