Problem: videos not playing with 4.3 update

Hello

As soon as we updated to 4.3 some videos won't load, play, load only the first frame etc. (inline, autostart, in-view). Big mess. You can download a sample mib in order to get an idea of the problem.

Thanks

Alex

Hello Alex,

As I mentioned in the other forum topic:

http://magplus.zendesk.com/entries/26180653

We have received several other inquiries about this & are still currently looking into it.  I will be sure to get back to you as soon as we have a resolution.

Hi,

the same problem here.

When I preview one verical, the video autoplays, but when I export the whole magazine, the same video doesn`t play.

I need an urgent fix, please.

Best

Hello Jarek,

This is a bug that appears to be happening in the 4.3 Reviewer & will be addressed in a future release.

We have come up with a temporary work-around for this bug. Rather than having your Media Area frame set to auto-play, uncheck this option. Move your "Clickable Area" hotspot that is linked to the Media Area to the center of your vertical & re-export the vertical. For each vertical you export that contains an auto-play video, you will then need to open the "vertical.xml" file within your verticals folder & find the block ID (Object ID) of your Clickable Area hotspot. Under this ID section of the code you will find a line of code that will look something like this (it will contain different values):

<clickable\_area x="-22" y="-22" height="179" width="264" url="media://m11714"/>

& you will want to add:

trigger="visible"

to your line of code so that the Clickable Area hotspot activates the video file rather than the Media Area. Your line of code will then look something like this (but with different values):

<clickable\_area x="-22" y="-22" height="179" width="264" url="media://m11714" trigger="visible"/>

Then you will just save the vertical.xml file & do the same to any other vertical.xml file within your other verticals that contain an auto-play video. Just remember to remove the auto-play from the Media Area blocks & re-export them before editing the vertical.xml files.

We realize that this is not an ideal fix but it will accomplish what you want for the time being & we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

I just updated my reviewer app to 4.3.1 and it crashes every time I try to push the mib to it from the Production tool... any suggestions?

Mark,

Could you send over the MIB file in questions & I'll see if I can replicate this crash?

Mark,

The problem does not seem related to the Production Tool as I just tested pushing your MIB to our Reviewer App using 4.3 as well as 4.2 & am getting the same crash.  It is most likely related to the content of the MIB.  Seeing that you have an html file & an mp4 video file.. one or the combination of both of these could be the culprit.  For starters I recommend optimizing your video file if you have not done so already:

I'd give that a try to start with & see if you get better results.

I optimized the video and removed the HTML and it still crashes...It doesn't crash with the unedited XML file. I have followed the directions above and have read them numerous times. Is anyone else having crashing problems like this?

Thanks for your help Mike!

Mark,

I'll have to look a little deeper into this, could you also send over your InDesign file?

I've done the work-around with the edit to the vertical.xml file, and unchecking "auto start", and the video works now, but the button has gone away. Is there any way for the button to still be functional so you can pause/start the video once it's playing?

Troy,

Are you using a Control Image or just a hotspot?  Could you shoot over a direct download link to a .zip file containing your InDesign vertical file & include any applicable links (images, video, html files).

Troy,

Sorry for not getting to you sooner, but your .zip does not contain your video file:

Could you also provide this?

Troy,

I have provided a link below with a fixed InDesign file & vertical directory containing a working version of this in which I edited the .xml to include the work around.  But to explain what you'll need to do on any other verticals with this scenario.  You'll have to create a 2nd instance of your Clickable Area hotspot (copy & paste the current one) leaving the same Object ID, it can be pasted in the exact same position if you'd like.  Essentially this is creating a hotspot for auto-loading the video & a hotspot for tapping to start/stop.

Here is the download link (this will only be available for a week — https://magplus.box.com/shared/static/s9nwqwdpigunrny9oent.zip

I did notice also that your InDesign file page size was adjusted.  Doing this can potentially cause problems with exporting your MIB file down the road so we recommend leaving the templates at the size they come.

If you have any follow-up questions please do not hesitate to ask!
