Mag+ 4.3 Hidden blocks are no longer exported from the plug-in.

Before I install the newest update, please tell me what this means:

"Hidden blocks are no longer exported from the plug-in."

If I have set a hidden block to be a reference object identifier for some kind of clickable layer element, will this block no longer be functional with the new upgrade? Or will it still owrk, but not create a transparent .png file in the assets folder?

thanks

Karin

Hello Karin-

Sorry for the delay in response.

This is referring to the 'eye' icon in the Layers panel. If it is off, and the block is not visible on the page, it will not be exported.

So basically, just make sure that all layers you want exported are visible with the 'eye' on in the Layers panel before exporting your vertical.

Hello Amie

Thanks so much for your answer. I have a related question: sometimes I use an empty block as a reference object to activate a clickable layer function (to open a popup or a weblink etc). I see these empty blocks become png files in the assets folder nce exported - do thy continue to have a function as png files, or could they be deleted from the assets folder? (In other words, will the clickable function still work if the png file no longer exists, or is it referred to in the code?)

The reason I want to delete these png files is that I want to minimise file size where ever possible (a big issue for us). With this in mind, I have another idea: as I am designing vertical-only files at this stage, would it have any side-effects if I was to delete the thumbnail for the horizontal view from the thumbnails folder once exported?

thanks again

Karin

Hi Karin-

Deleting reference objects, even if blank, will break functionality in your app.  In terms of best practices, we do not recommend adding links to blank objects, though.  Instead, you should add the link to whatever object the user believes they are tapping (so in the case of a button, the object that includes the button - or in the case of a piece of text, the object that contains the text).  You can then resize the clickable to cover not the entire object, but just the area you want to be clickable.

You should not delete thumbnails, either, even if seemingly unused.  If your goal is to reduce the size of your iOS MIB file, you should consider our MIB Optimizer.  You can find more information on it here:

Hello again Amie

Thanks for your input - I won't delete reference objects or thumbnails.

I do use the optimiser, which has been very helpful, but as that software doesn't work on the android files, I was looking for other ways to decrease file size.
