InDesign Crash

I have CS5.5, everytime I go to export my vertical to the production tool, it gets about 80% through and then InDesign crashes without fail. This wasn't happening a few days ago and it only just started. Please help!

Hi Olivia,

What OS are you on?

Is this happening for a specific document or are all documents affected?

Is the crashing occurring when you are trying to do Fast review as well?

  • Make sure that you have the latest version of the plugin installed.

  • Make sure that you have chosen the correct Photoshop version, you do this under Mag+ Settings in the plugin

  • Make sure htat the folde you are exporting to is not protected somehow.

Hi,

Re:

I'm on OS 10.8, I have the latest plugins and Photoshop version. It affects only a few files and it crashes when I try to fast review and export. I don't know what to do the only thing I can think of is that the files are larger than others but that shouldn't shut the whole program down, right?

Hi Olivia-

In the "Mag+ Settings" window in the plugin, what do you have set as the dpi next to "Mag+ Prod Vertical Preview"?  If it is not 72, try changing it to that and attempt to export again.  Let us know if that helps.

Note: you must enter your response directly in this ticket in order for it to come through.

Thank you,

I am having the same problem since updating to the latest version of the software. I'm on OS X 10.8.4 and Adobe CS6.

Hi Leigh,

Have you checked the following?

  1. Make sure that you have chosen the correct Photoshop version in the plugin settings.
  2. Make sure that the folder you are exporting to is not protected somehow.
  3. Make sure your "Mag+ Prod Vertical Preview" dpi is set to 72 in the plugin settings.

Thank you,

Can you send over then crash report you get from InDesign?

Also, have you tried reinstalling the tools?

Hi Kristina,

Are you able to do a fast and full review without crashing?

Could you send us your crash report from InDesign?

Thank you,

I'm not sure how to find the crash report, flash generally saves it to my desktop, but indesign hasn't done that, and I'm not getting a notification to get to it when it crashes.

It freezes indesign at the same moment every time I try to push from either fast review or export, and I just tried it from full review it did send it to my device, but its broken.. In the icon it shows my layout, but in the reader it's completely white...

I am also having the same problem doing a fast review and full review, it will freeze InDesign. It seems to do it at the same stage each time, 'Creating images - B-layer blocks writing Jpeg'. I have checked all settings, reinstalled the tools and production tool. I have CS6 on windows 7 64bit. InDesign doesn't produce a crash report and I cant find CrashReportapp.exe to see if it has been turned off (don't think it has). My vertical only contains 1 text box no images. I have attached the InDesign file.

Please help, thanks!

I seem to have isolated the crashes to a video file on the vertical. Since changing the file for another it hasn't crashed.

Glad to hear you tracked down the problem, Leigh!

Gemma-

Looking at your file, I see that you have your text box on the B-layer and that it is quite a bit longer than the height of the device.  What happens if you try to export while this file is placed on the A-layer, instead (so that it scrolls)?

Thank you,

Hello!

It's seems to be a common theme....I am experiencing the same thing as Gemma above. InDesign suddenly quits when 'creating B-layer blocks', etc. then produces a crash report. It was working beautifully about a week ago then from out of nowhere I have been unable to review. I have troubleshooted the above mentioned 'check list': Photoshop version settings, the dpi, I have installed the latest Mag+ plugin, and I have even re-installed InDesign CS6.

I have attached some screen shots of the report. I have also attached my InDesign document. Maybe it's something I've done within the document.

One more quick thing....On page 5 in my document (see attached 'Spring Issue'), the ribbon at the top of the page is be behind the type logo, but when previewed (when I could :-)), it is over the type. I have the ribbon fie 'sent to the back' and the type box 'brought to the front'. This is occurring on page 6 as well. The upper right photo corner is on top of the photo but when previewed, it 'goes to the back'. Please advise.

Thank you for your assistance!

Hi Joey,

Concerning the arrangement problem. Try grouping the objects, it should solve your problem. If you want the plugin to handle them as separate objects, please read the following article: http://support.magplus.com/entries/20987096

Regarding your crashing issue, is this occuring when doing both Fast Review and Full Review? Is it happening to all documents or just the one?

What OS are you and what version of CS are you using?

Anders

Same thing was happening to me, grouping the objects on layer B helped the stalling/crashing. Now I get failed to export to device, which I am sure is unrelated...

I'm still having the same issue of it crashing. I've triple checked all of the the steps and all of the advice on here. I'm not getting a crash report.

It seems to like the effort was put into the mac version, and less on the pc version? Should I just try it on a mac and see if it works? I'm kind of desperate at this point.

It's also crashing on all accounts now, fast review, full review, and export..

@Kristina: Are you experiencing the crashing with all of your InDesign files, or only with certain ones?  Can you send over one of the files that is giving you trouble?

I am having the same issue. Im i have cs6, OS 10.8.4 mine crashes when it is "Creating Vertical Slide preview."  I have included a screenshot of what it looks like when it crashes (the error screens) and the first 3 portions of the crash report.

Hi Joel-

It looks like the very last image in your design is set to the B-layer, but is far below the device margins (similar to Gemma's problem).  I'd recommend moving this to the A-layer and then grouping all of your A-layer items.

Let me know if this doesn't resolve the crashing for you.

Thank you,
