Limited number of popups?

Hey there,

unfortunately we have a problem with popups: a vertical with 45 popups crashes the reviewer, but just when pushing the retina version. Pushing the normal iPad-Version works, although the performance is a bit bumpy. We tried to reduce the number of popups to isolate the error, and it seem that the reviewer crashes after pushing a vertical with 20 popups. So is there a limit of popups? The popups are quite big contain an images. We tried to load a html instead of an image but had the same crash. Any ideas? We need that number of popups and can not reduce them.

By the way: We use CS5/Mac and a iPad Retina for reviewing.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Christian,

This is porbbably caused due to memory issue. Is it possible for you to try the following?

  • Export the retina vertical to the production tool
  • Create a MIB from the production tool including the vertical with the popups
  • Run the MIB you just created through the MIB optimiser (http://support.magplus.com/entries/21868426), this will convert PNG images that doesn't have an alpha channel to JPEG, this will at the same time downsize the vertical.
  • Test the MIB on your device using the MIB pusher:  http://support.magplus.com/entries/21865817

If this solves your problem, when you have your finished version of your retina MIB, run it through the optimiser the decrease the size.

Let me know how it works out!

Hey Anders,

awesome, thanks for this advice, the MIB optimizer works! Indeed the performance is still bumpy, meaning the layer with popups still freezes a few seconds, but after that short standstill the popups finally appear without crashing the Reviewer. I guess we have to tolerate this short freeze, right?

Thanks again for the handy hint!

Christian

Hi Christian,

Happy to hear it solved your problem. At the moment you unfortunately have to tolerate it because of the amount of popups used. The iPad is not able to pre-load all popups and therefore the freezing happens.
