Problems exporting from iPad to iPad Retina

Hi MagPlus,

When I use the Multiple devices export from iPad to iPad Retina, (scale) all layers and objects are scaled too much down.

When I use the centre, the export seem better, the images are placed in the right way. But as I understand from the video I am supposed to use the (scale) when I am only exporting from iPad to Ipad retina?

I have attatched some screendumps

Picture 1 - is the layout as it looks in the original document, iPad

Picture 2 - it what it looks like when I use the multiple devices export, (Scale)  for iPad Retina.

The other pictures are setting images.

Please help I am in much hurry.

Hi Vicky,

  • Go to the Mag+ Settings panel in the plugin. Click on the triangle next to "Device templates".

  • Click on the icon under "T" for the iPad Retina and make sure that it is linked to the correct template [Applications > Mag+ > Mag+ templates > Apple iPad Retina]

  • If this does not solve your problem you can choose to use Export Rule "Centre" as it doesn't really matter as the ratio is the same for both devices.

Let me know how it works out!

Hi Anders,

Thank you for your respond,

It does not work, eventhough it is the right template. ( I can see that it is the right template by clicking the "T")

And it is not only for the iPad Retina it scale down too much, it is also when I try other devices (Fx. Android tablets).

As you say, it is not a big problem when I just have to export to Retina, I can just use the "Center" option.

I am later on going to export to an Android tablets as well, if this problem does not solve I guess I have to use the "Center" option aswell? and then scale the objects down?

In regards to the production flow, I have asked an importent question before, but I never got an anwser. And that is if I can chose to export the content to only one Android tablet size? if yes which one would be the smartest to push it too the bigger one (2560x800) or the smaller one (1280x800)?

And is it possible for the enduser to view an app with a 2560x800 resolution on an 1280x800 resolution Android tablet.

Hope you can help.

Hi Vicky,

I need to know the following:

  • Your version of the Mag+ plugin

  • Your version of InDesign

  • Your OS

Regarding the production flow question. At the moment it is not possible to show a 2560x1600 MIB on a 1280x800 device but it is possible to show a 1280x800 MIB on a 2560x1600 device. My recommendation would be to design for 1280x800 first and then do a multiple export for 2560x1600.

Hi Anders,

Thank you for your message.

The Magplus plugin is: 4,1

The Indesign version is CS6

The OS is 10.7.5

I will start with the small Android version.

Thank you

Hi Vicky,

We haven't seen any problems with the version you have downloaded before. Could you please download the latest version available, make sure to install the templates. Then try to do a multiple export from that template.

  • Also, are you choosing another installation location then the default?

HI Anders,

Thanks for your e-mail, I have uninstalled all magplus tools and reinstalled it again, now I can export to other devices using downscaling.

So it worked.

I however get a wierd message, that some file is broken.

I have attached a screendump.

Don't know if it is serious, but hope you can help.

Thanks.

Hi Vicky,

Try to go to /Users/~user~/Library/Preferences/ and delete the two folder starting with Magplus... and the file located there as well.

Restart InDesign after this to see if it solves your problem.
