4.1 crashing InDesign

I've just installed 4.1 for the first time on InDesign CS6, but InDesign crashes either straight after start-up, or soon afterwards when I open the MagPlus Window.

ADMIN EDIT: This problem has been solved with the 4.1.1 update of the plugin. Go to www.magplus.com and download the latest version of the plugin from there.

Thanks to everyone involved in troubleshooting this problem!

Likewise, I've just installed 4.1 for the first time on InDesign CS6, and InDesign crashes upon exporting a vertical or upon review.

As for me, when I set my text on layer A for scrolling, I select ZOOM at 125% and when I go to Fast Review...it crashes.

thanks!

Hey guys,

Sorry for your trouble. Please let us know the following:

  • OS version

  • Version of InDesign

  • Version of plugin

  • Do you get any error message?

  • If you get a crash report from InDesign, please attach it.

  • Please attach screenshots of the plugin's vertical and settings panels.

  • Make sure that you have updated the latest version of Adobe Air and Flash.

  • Is the problem occurring for all documents or just one of them?

  • Make sure that you use the Magplus_template found under Applications > Magplus

Hi Anders,

In my case:

Mac OS X 10.7.5

InDesign CS6

Plugin v4.1

1. InDesign crash report attached: Opening Mag+ window after InDesign successfully starts up

2.  InDesign crash report attached: Opening existing InDesign document (containing interactive elements)

3.  InDesign crash report attached: InDesign crashes upon start-up

I have tried removing the Plugin and InDesign works normally. Reinstalling causes the same issues.

Thanks for your assistance

  • The problem is occurring for all files.

  • All files are either from the templates or exports from iPad templates to iPhone layouts.

Thanks for your help!

Hi, I'd like to report the same issue that happens to me too. After installing the plugin InD crashes immediately when started. After removing the plugin folder from InD plugins folder, everything works normally. I'm looking forward to some fix since I really need this tool, so hope it won't take long for the programmers to improve it.

OS X 10.8.2

Plugin version 4.1

Indesign CS 5.5

Crash report in the attachement

I've been having trouble exporting verticals - however, I've narrowed it down to "PAN". Same vertical - exports fine without PAN, but crashes WITH PAN....

It seems like it's crashing either when writing the png, or the next action...

OS X 10.6.8

Plugin version 4.1

Indesign CS 5.5

I've included the crash-report

Another issue... There is no preview on the new verticals (H-Landscape and V-Portrait) in the production tool... I've tried to export 4.1 A-masters, and they are showing fine...

I'm having the same problem. InDesign crashes upon startup. I deleted Mag+ plugins in InDesign folder and InDesign is back to normal.

I'm having the same issue... My ID crash everytime I open it.. Mac OS X 10.8.2, ID CS6 (V 8), Mag+ 4.1  Also tried it with ID CS5.5 with same results.. ID crashes everytime

Any comments?

Hey, I'v already posted the same issue here and then I also sent an e-mail to Mag+ Support but I'd also like to write that I've tried all other available versions of the plugin - with the same result. Nothing works for me. (Mac OS X 10.8.2, Indesign CS 5.5). However, when I log in to Lion as root user, everthing is fine, (despite lack of access to my files because of the root mode) and InDesign works with the plugin. When I go back to normal user mode, everyhthing crashes.

Just an FYI to my earlier post. I'm testing different things out. I still have CS4 on my computer and downloaded the CS4 plugin for OS X and have been able to open up InDesign CS4. Haven't used it to know if it will crash while in use or exporting. But at least it fires up, plugin window loads and seems to be stable.

Hi all,

All of you that are having problems with the crashing upon start, could you please try the following:

Close InDesign

Delete the MagPlus folder at:

/<User>/Library/Preferences/MagPlus

Start InDesign

In the crash reports we have seen it seems as though the preferences couldn't be created.

Also, regarding for those of you that have had crashing, are you logged in on the Admin account on your computer?

Best regards,

Anders

Hi Anders, I've been logged in on the Admin account.

Will try:

Delete the MagPlus folder at:

/<User>/Library/Preferences/MagPlus

and also see how 4.0 does with CS5.

Thanks,

Dean

Logged in as Admin.

Tried to rollback to 4.0 and 3.5 and now all version of InDesign crash upon vertical export or review with 3.5, 4.0, and 4.1.

No luck.

Just installed 4.0 for CS5 and was crashing on startup but went ahead and deleted MagPlus folder in User>Library>Preferences and InDesign CS5 is working and seems like I can work in it. Will use this version to learn and test and will see how exporting/previewing works. I'm on OS X 10.6.8.

Anders, it also helped for me to revert to 4.0 and delete User>Library>Preferences MagPlus folder. Now InDesign starts without problem and loads files. Anyway, I still need to try to design something and export it so I'll keep you updated how it works.

Has anyone also noticed that when exporting a 4.0 vert, it loads in 4.1 on the production tool? This is worrisome since i cant publish a mib file...

@Dean & Martyna: Have you been able to try to install 4.1 after you removed the Magplus folder under preferences?

@Mark: Have you tried to remove the preferences for Mag+ as described in my post above?

@Swoznicki: This is a known problem which is solved in an upcoming update that we will release soon. Sorry for your trouble.

Hi Anders,

I'm an Admin user. I deleted /<User>/Library/Preferences/MagPlus, downloaded the 4.1 plugin again, and re-installed. Crash reports are attached for:

  1. InDesign crashed opening up a non-Mag+ document I'd previously been working on

  2. InDesign started fine (after dismissing doc recovery) but crashed soon after opening a Mag+ template (ipad retina)

Once again removing the plugin from the CS6 folder means InDesign works normally.

Next, I checked the Library > Preferences just to be sure there were no Mag+ preferences in here. Then I installed plugin 4.0 (from your link). Crash reports are attached for:

6. InDesign crashed opening up a non-Mag+ document I'd previously been working on

  1. InDesign crashed immediately/fails to start (tries to automatically recover document)

  2. InDesign started fine  (after dismissing doc recovery) but crashed soon after opening a Mag+ template (ipad retina)

Hope this helps

Hi Anders,

I haven't tried 4.1 on CS5 with MagPlus folder under user preferences deleted yet. Will let you know when I do.

I have been running 4.0 on CS5 and am able to view preview on the iPad using the app. Haven't exported anything yet. Still just beginning to learn MagPlus.

Thanks,

Dean

I just downloaded Mag+ 4.10 on my laptop for CS5, installed it and InDesign works without deleting user preferences. This is strange as I'm running the same OS X 10.6.8 as I am on my desktop when I first installed 4.10 and experienced crashing on InD CS5. It could be however, that it works because I have Mag+4.1 previously installed for CS4 working just fine. Haven't used it yet on CS5 or done any previewing or exporting.

Just installed Mag+4.10 on my desktop for CS5 that was previously running Mag+ 4.0 and 4.1 now seems to be working and CS5 is not crashing. I had previously deleted user preferences when I did the 4.0 install. See my previous post on: February 15, 2013 20:49. So far I've done a fast review of one of the template files to view on my iPad via the Reviewer and seems to be working fine.

You're welcome Anders!

So far I've been working on CS5 with 4.1 and using as much of the features as I can in the vertical, object and settings tool windows as I learn Mag+ and it's been stable. I can also review on iPad and just recently downloaded the Reviewer for iPhone. Thanks for all the help!

Hi Anders! I downloaded the zip file and unzipped it, then opened the folder and it seems to be empty.
