Fast Review freezes InDesign CS6

Hi,

I have two almost identical verticals, or InDesign files. One of them makes InDesign stall into an endless freeze and crashes InDesign. The other one works perfectly. The two verticals contain basically nothing, and the only difference in them is one has two groups (the one that crashes) and the other one has just one group.

I've uploaded two verticals to my dropbox and would appreciate if someone could help me spot the error. The problem occurs when I chose "Fast Review". Perhaps it's a bug, I don't know.

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/50369398/magplusbug.zip

Includes fast-preview_works.indd and fast-preview_not-working.indd

I'm using InDesign CS6 on Windows 7 and I'm using the latest versions of both the reviewer app on the iPad and for the computer.

Thanks in advance.

Ps. I found this bug:

When I chose "Output PNG Images Only" it actually works. But the problem remains using jpgs, which is really weird.

Hi Daniel,

Very strange problem. Unfortunately I'm not able to replicate it using your files. Is it possible for you to grab screenshots of your plugin for the verticals panel and the settings panel.

Here's a screenshot of my settings for the vertical that doesn't work. Note that it's exporting the jpg's that doesn't work. Exporting only png's works.

Let me know if you need something else.

Would be interesting to see which version that is, if you click the drop down menu up in the top right corenr of the plugin and click "About this plugin" you will be able to see the version number.

This is still a problem, now a bit more urgent than before since working with inDesign is quite impossible when the program freezes. I prefer jpgs because of the filesize.

I've just installed the latest version on both iPad and computer (4.1/Windows7) and still creating B-layer blocks is resulting in a complete freeze in inDesign CS6. Is this a problem you guys are aware of that will be fixed soon?

I opened the magplus_template_CS6.indt and saved it in order to be allowed to do a "Fast Review". But I never get pass the jpg writing.

I could not reproduce using his files. Works fine for me.

Is he running InDesign 8.0.1? Also is this Win 32 bit or 64 bit?

Also, he should choose an actual issue folder path, not use the default one from the template. Not sure this would be a problem, but this path wouldn't exist on his machine. Should be something like C:\somepath\

I'm running InDesign (32bit) 8.0 on Windows 7 64 bit. I've also pointed out a correct issue folder.

Hi Daniel,

Go ahead and run the 8.0.1 update for the InDesign application.

The issue may be related to how the size of the frame is calculated. This is a bug that was introduced in InDesign CS6. I've tried to account for this in the export. But currently I'm unable to see a hang or crash. I am running 8.0.1 however.

Best regards, Heath

Hi again, Heath.

The same problem occurs even after updating inDesign to the latest version, v8.0.1. I'm attaching a screenshot of my settings. Is there anything else I can look for that might cause InDesign to freeze?

CS6, 4.2, Windows 8.

Exact same problem here, already tried some of the answers posted in other threads but it's just getting worse. Before, InDesign was just freezing, now it's crashing instantly when writting the PNGs of the B- layer blocks as I'm trying to review to an ASUS Nexus.

Having the same issues, export, stalls the software completely, have to force quit the programme and reopen.

Hello Ian,

What are the specifications of your computer operating system, InDesign CS version and Plugin version?  This may also indicate that there is something specific in your file causing InDesign to freeze, is this happening on every file you try or just 1 in particular?
