Portrait and landscape rotate symbol issue

Hi again

I am designing an app for an art Gallery. We made the decision to go with a portrait format for the first issue - to keep the amount of design work down and it works better for long text articles..

We are using a number of small thumbnail images which have a fullscreen popup. Some of these images are landscape and we want them to be viewed that way at full screen. However when the ipad is turned 90 degrees to view the image the rotation symbol pops up and the image turns back to the portrait format.

Is there a way around this?

In short, I want to lock the rotation to portrait for the whole app, but allow the user to turn the tablet 90 degrees to view landscape images - how do I do this?

thanks

Hi Leon,

Due to some changes in Xcode it is no longer possible to partly lock an app in an orientation. So this is why we are soon (hopefully at the end of January, 2013) going to make it possible to build apps that are fully locked in one position. Meaning, either you can build an app that can only show MIBs made for portrait, or you build an app that can only show mibs built for landscape. Or just a regular app that can be shown in both orientations, but is still showing the rotate symbol if a vertical is locked.

Hi, Have you updated this yet?  It is paramount for the issue that I am designing that these symbols don't appear.

I have seen a lot of magazine apps that you can 'lock' the orientation... seems rather odd that you can't do this

Hi Anthony,

As Apple don't allow you to build apps that are "partly" locked you can either build an app that can only show MIBs made for portrait, or you build an app that can only show MIBs built for landscape. Or just a regular app that can be shown in both orientations, but is still showing the rotate symbol if a vertical is locked.

Hi Anders ,

Still have you updated this yet?  I would like to build an app that can only show MIBs built for landscape but it still showing the rotation mark.

What would be the solution?

Thank you,

Also, if Apple don't allow you to build apps that are "partly" locked, is possible entirely lock just one orientation without  the rotation symbol.

Hi Hyejung,

When you are building your own app in Mag+ Publish you will be able to lock the orientation under APPS > Build options > Orientation.

Hi Andrew,

In production tool or in Indesign? I afraid to say that I tried both of them to lock, but rotation symbol still show up. I just wanted entire app is locked one orientation.

Let me know what is the solution.

Thank you so much,

Hi Hyejung,

This setting is done in Mag+ Publish (publish.magplus.com) which is where you will build your app in the end. It is not part of the Production tool nor the Plugin unfortunately.. If you want access to Mag+ Publish, please contact sales@magplus.com and they will set it up for you. Here is the pricing info: http://www.magplus.com/features-price/

Hi Anders,

Our department already published before via Mag+. However, at that moment it was impassible to fix popup's rotation. We care considering publish 2nd edition, and I wanted to solve this issue. If you could provide how to do this, I would appreciate. I could explain this to our application department, and might get access to Mag+ Publish.

Thank you so much,
