Push to device failed

Every time I try to export or fast review, I get a dialog window from indesign saying "Push to device failed!" The Mag+ Reviewer App was active while I tried exporting.

I've tried the following:

deleting and reinstalling the Reviewer App

checked the ip address in the indesign plugin

checked my connection by typing my ipad's ip into my mac's browser - got the file upload service, so that works fine

checked the ipad settings - the push service is enabled

checked my firewall - port 5000 is enabled

is there some crucial step i'm missing? ive seen other people have asked this question before too, and you guys did make suggestions (which ive tried) but then there was no feedback.

HI Anna,

Are you working on a mac or a PC?

Are you able to push a blank page to the reviewer?

Are you using the Mag+ InDesign template.

Hi,

This also happens to me. I can export and build my magazine with the Mag+ Production Tool and then push to device so I can review in lo res on my iPad, but I cannot Fast Review or Full Review from InDesign.

I could really do with this feature not only so I can track my progress as I go but also so I can review my magazine on the iPad in hi res.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Anders,

I do not have Little Snitch and I've checked that my firewall is off. Any other suggestions?

Is there a way I can view my magazine in hi res from the Mag+ Production Tool?

Hey,

I've now managed to get the 'Fast Review' and 'Full Review' features working, after reading in a different support thread that you need to have the Reviewer open on your iPad when you start the review process.

Unfortunately the magazine on the iPad is still lo res, with white boxes surrounding text and images and some images being cut in half!

Any ideas?

Hey Mark,

Depending on which layer you place objects they will render differently. Most of these rendering issues are fixed by grouping the objects in InDesign. Especially the objects located on the bottom b-layer. If you find that the images are low res, try reviewing using full review and see if that makes a difference.

I am having the same problem as Anna, at the top of this thread.  When I try to Review or Fast Review, I get "Push to Device Failed."  When I click "Export" it seems to work, but when I look in my Issue folder, none of the files seem to have updated. When I go into the Production Tool, I press "Refresh" and it looks like the verticals have refreshed (based on the previews, which show my recent changes), but then when I hit "Review All" from the Prod Tool, in the "Uploading to push server" status box I get "Error 2038."

This is a mag that I was reviewing successfully YESTERDAY, and I haven't changed anything substantial - only made one edit to one vertical, and exported them all one more time to make sure I got all changes before trying to review in Prod. Tool.

I have closed all of my ID files, restarted ID, and re-opened all my ID files.

I have quit the Reviewer app on the pad and restarted it.

I have checked my device type and issue folder for all verticals.

I have checked IP addr settings.

I have checked that my iPad and Mac are on the same WiFi.

Any other suggestions??

I just solved the problem.  I had not realized that my iPad's IP address had just been dynamically re-assigned by the network. That meant the IP addrs in my Mag+ settings (in ID) and in the Production Tool (under Preferences) became out-of-date.

This wasn't due to anything I had done, but some network re-wiring going on in our building.  That's why the problem seemed so mysterious. ("I didn't do anything!")

For those who do not know, the IP address on your iPad is dynamically assigned – that is, it can change any time.  When it does, the new one has to be entered into your Mag+ settings (ID) and the Production Tool.
