What are all these vertical lines appearing on the vertical exports and previews?

Please see the images attached. They display the odd and random vertical lines on the final layers we are experiencing (as well as the more drastic final export problem we are discussing) . They are not always 100% consistent at export to vertical or review. We need to get the off the pages. They occur even at single page review, so they are unrelated to the other issues.

Any advise on this will help my designers breath a bit easier.

Hi David and James,

Could you send one of the objects where the problem occurs?

You currently have all the verticles - what else do you need?

Its not obvious whats causing it.

I have fixed some with putting an invisable box behind the effected areas but the problem has only recently started to happen (CS6 indesign). It seems to effect elements that have been made interactive jumplinks mainly in my case or buttons to play video. The images David sent as an example is exactly what happens when viewed on the ipad to me. Nothing is visible on the indesign doc.

@David: Sorry, my mistake, do you have one InDesign file available?

@James: Ok, I will look for that!

Hi Anders,
My designer has tested quite a few, but not all, and found that you work around seems to be a successful suggestion.
Thanks very much for that. Hopefully the work around won't be necessary going forward, but feels very good to have a solution.

Thank you.

My apologies .... Thanks James for the work around. We are breathing easier.

this work around worked most of the time, but often created a different line somewhere else. We just had to keep nudging things and exporting till they came out the other end... they eventually did a few day later. A patch would be good guys.

Hello all-

Just wanted to chime in and let you know that our development team is aware of the situation and working on a permanent fix for this issue.  In the meantime, please try the transparant box workaround that James mentions above.

Hi All,

I have tried the transparent box workaround as well as decreasing the size by 0.5 pixel but these both create a different line somewhere else.

Has anyone found any other solutions?

Hi Anders, do you know when this update will be available? Will it be an update to the reviewer or plugin?

It will be an update of the plugin. We don't know when it will be available yet unfortunately.

Hi, Just wanted to flag that these coloured lines still seem to be appearing, a LOT less frequently but the few random lines are still a problem.

This happens on both Apple and Android. Mainly pinned text boxes.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi all, I've tried the workaround suggested above with no success. Any ideas? Or any news regarding when the plugin update will be available?

Thanks,

The lines have not appeared thanks to the latest Magplus Plugin, but lately a few random ones keep popping up.

Could this be to do with  selecting 'Downsize with Photoshop'?

@Lulu: Try downloading the latest version of the plugin and see if that solves your problem.

@Hannah: If the problem is not solved with the 4.1 update released yesterday. Is it possible for you to send us some screenshots of the lines that still appears along with an InDesign document that has the same problem?

Hi Eleanor,

Make sure to download the latest version of our plug-in available on magplus.com and re-export the vertical. If that does not help, try moving the object that gets the line half a pxiel on the x-axis. Sometimes that might solve the problem.

Let me know how it works out!

Hi Anders,

the repositioning of the objects has no effect on the horizontal white lines.

I have the same problem (only the line colour is white and they are horizontal) whenever I use images with a high amount of gradients in transparency. The random lines appear when the MagPlus Plugin exports and slices the linked original files and downscales them for the verticals.

In my experience it works a little bit better when it exports with Photoshop (instead of just the Plugin) but the lines are in every image with a lot of transparency (i.e. clouds, fog etc.) and it makes no difference what image format you use as original source.

My workaround was to take the images in the verticals folder and replace them by "handsliced" images.

This is really annoying and only worked for me because I use few images with transparent gradients. I hope this will be solved with the next update.

Cheers,

Hannah

Hello Hannah,

This bug should have been resolved quite some time ago.  Are you using the latest versions of our Plugin & Templates?  (4.3).  You might try deleting your current Mag+ folder from the Applications folder (MAC) or Program Files folder (PC), downloading the latest installer for your OS & CS version & doing a fresh install to make sure.

Yes, i use the latest versions (4.3) and i have reinstalled the plugin several times as the android settings "got lost" and i had to reinstall the plugin to see them in InDesign.

I also use CS6 InDesign and Photoshop and selected resizing via Photoshop in the MagPlus settings.

cheers,

Hannah

Hannah,

Would you mind shooting over a direct download link to a .zip file containing one of your troublesome InDesign vertical files & include any applicable links (images, video, html files), I'd be happy to take a look to see if I can recreate this.

Hi Mike,

thanks. I attached a file with a linked PSD and a linked PNG of the same file. I think the lines occur when downscaling the file. If you change the percentage and angle of the placed image the lines occur in the same angle.

Maybe this would not happen with just images placed with 100% but this is hard to handle if you have one basic layout and want to adapt it to different formats - and also it is quite confusing because the template documents are set up in milimeters by default. I didn't know if changing this to pixels would mess anything up.

Hannah,

Right off the bat, I see that you are using the V-Portrait Master pages.  This is only necessary when using our Dual Layout feature & in order for that to work properly, each V-Portrait page needs a corresponding H-Landscape page.  If you are not using the Dual Layout feature, you can simply use the A-Auto Master page for each of your vertical slides/pages, setting the orientation to Portrait in the settings is all you need to do to make your verticals portrait only.  So setting your pages to the A-Auto Master makes those lines go away.

The lines are a glitch with our Plugin when the pages are not setup as intended.
