The Mag+ InDesign Plugin installation bug

I am runing MS Windows 7 Ultimate. In order to evaluate Mag+, Adobe InDesign CS5.5. evaluation copy is installed on D: drive. During Mag+ v3.2 installation there was a warning on Preinstall checklist that CS5.5. is not installed (!?). However, the installation had finished. After I lunched InDesign I am not able to find any Mag+ plugin. I tried first Mag+ installation on D: drive and later reinstall on C: drive, but with same result. I did not try to reinstall InDesign on C: drive - although I believe it could help to resolve issue.

Another indication is that in Start menu folder I found pdf document that does not actually exist and have different Shortcut and target directory.

There are 2 bugs actually.

I assume that installation procedure does not handle propery (a) InDesign non-default installation and (b) change of Mag+ installation directory.

Hi William,

Yes, as you say it seems as though the installation path is causing problems for the installer.

Download this zip file and drag the "Mag+ Plugin" folder to your InDesign plugin folder (Adobe InDesign > Plug-ins). Then restart InDesign and you should be able to find the Mag+ plugin under "Windows". http://dl.dropbox.com/u/33037258/Mag%2B%20Plugin.zip

Hope this helps!

Anders

Hi,

I have something similar - I have a Mac OS 10.7.3 Laptop and after I downloaded Mag+ I discovered there is no Plugin, which makes it rather impossible then to use. I had also installed it on my desktop prior to that on a Mac OS 10.6.8 and that works just fine, but sometimes I need to work away from the desktop, as I did last night when I went home. How come it works on one and not the other. Can you advise or send me a Mac Plugin please. I tried your link above but it lands on an error page.

Thanks

Kerry

Thank you Anders - could you please either repost zip or check reachability. I get Error 404 when I click ... I tried this today.

Thnx

William - Sorry for that, dropbox didn't synch properly, the link is working now.

Kerry - The link above apply only for PCs with CS5.5.

Please make sure that you have downloaded the correct version of the plugin for your other computer and installed the plugin and the production tool. Does the installer give you any error message?

Hi Anders,

Only today I continue my journey to Mag+ following your video and I discovered that I have /Window/Mag+ menu item, but when I open it - it is completely dark ?!? There are no options on the panel as it is supposed to be.

I enclose screenshot.

Thnx

I got a similar bug: I installed Mag+ on Windows 7 with InDesign CS4. When opening InDesign Mag+ doesn't appear in the windows menu. What to do?

Marco

PS: also the startmenu links don't work.

Hi,

@William: Make sure you have Adobe Flash installed.

@Marco: Have you restarted InDesign after installation. Check your InDesign Plugins folder and see if you are able to find the Mag+ plugin.

Hi Anders,

I restarted and there's a Mag+ folder within the InDesign plugin folder, yes. It contains four files: MagPlus.pln, MagPlusUI.pln, MagPlusUI.swf and zip.exe.

Now I installed the InDesign CS6 demo on my Mac, where Mag+ works. But when I load the Mag+ examples and click "preview" InDesign instantly crashes. Always. Any idea how to setup either CS4 on PC or CS6 on OSX to get Mag+ working?

When I open the Mag+ iPad template and just add a picture, I still cannot preview the template. To whatever layer I put the image, it always results in an error "failed to export vertical for review". What could I do wrong?

Me again: even if I just load the template and add nothing, I cannot preview because that "failed to export vertical for review" pops up.

Unfortunately I cannot find any turorials or videos about using Mag+. There's some installation videos and some more pro tutorials but I couldn't find something that shows me the first steps. Can I find that somewhere?

Hi Marco,

Sorry for the late reply, the problem in InDesign CS6 can be solved by selecting, only export pngs under settings in the plugin. It's a bug that will be solved with the upcoming update.

Here you will be able to find tutorials on how to get started: http://www.magplus.com/playlist/tutorials/

I also recommend checking out our recorded webinars as they are very basic: http://www.magplus.com/playlist/webinars/

Hi Anders, unfortunately exporting only PNGs doesn't solve the problem, the error message still appears. Any other idea?

Me again:  I was able to install CS4 on OSX, where Mag+ works well. So my conclusion is:

Mag+ with CS4 on PC doesn't work.

Mag+ with CS6 on OSX doesn't work.

Mag+ with CS4 on OSX works.

I am having the same problem as this guy except for cs4 and cs6 windows

Hi Antoine,

Make sure that you downloaded the correct version of the plugin for your version of InDesign. Also make sure that previous versions of the plugin was uninstalled before updating.

Hi Marco,

Mag+ should work on CS4, CS5, CS5,5 and CS6 for both PC and MAC. At the moment there is a problem with the jpeg compiler in CS6 which is solved by selecting export PNGs only in the plugin.

Hi Anders, yes, it definitely *should* work, but here I can only transfer layouts from CS4 on my Mac. No chance with CS4 and 6 on my PC and no chance with CS6 on my Mac. I'm willing to send all info you may need if you want to fix it.

Another issue: when trying to preview on my Kindle Fire I always get the message that transmitting has failed. The Kindle IP address is configured, tried exporting PNGs on and off, the document files get created in my specified folder, the Mag+ app is on my Kindle and I'm logged in... everything seems right, but it won't work. Any idea?

Update on the Kindle: in another thread I found a newer Reviewer App which works well.

Could you please post up the plug-in folder for CS5? I have tried over and over to use the installer for Mag+ but I keep getting errors and am forced to abort the install.

"Error opening file for writing: C:\Program Files (x86\Mag+ AB\MagPlus CS5\Readme.txt"

@Marco: Below is plugin folder needed for CS6 on a MAC. unzip the file and place the folder under Applications > Adobe InDesign CS6 > Plug-ins and restart InDesign to see if that helps.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/33037258/Mag%2B%20plugin%203.2%20CS6.zip

@Tony: Here you go! Place the folder under Adobe InDesign CS5 > Plug-ins and restart InDesign.
