Originally from ticket #3330.

Hi,

is it possible to embed a YouTube or Vimeo video in an issue so that it downloads from its location to minimize mag size?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Anders,

I was wondering if you could help me. I've created a pop-up movie linking it to a video on youtube. HOWEVER, when I review the page, the popup comes up with a black box and closes immediately. It acts as if there is no video linked. Is there a step Im missing?

Thank youuuu

Hi,

you can't place YouTube or Vimeo links in movie objects. As Anders wrote you have to do a regular web link, that will open a web browser playing the video.

Best regards

Hello.

I am currently working on my first magazine app, so i´m learning in the process. I need to insert media content to my app, such as html and video, but everytime i try to perform this action, indesign collapses and closes itself. I don´t know if it is a problem with the plugin not having the necessary stuff to work properly or my software has something bad.

Hi Vicente,

Have you been able to review to your device without embedding videos?

So what exactly are the constraints of Add Video... Source Type URL

I do not want to link out to a browser window and you want to just play the video (and only the video) but not embed the file, to minimize file size.

I would prefer to link out to the video being hosted somewhere else, anywhere else, youtube, vimeo, etc.  How do I do that?  It seem you can  not link out via  Source Type URL  to vimeo or youtube so where can you link to?

Hi Megan,

If you want to stream media you can place it on your server and then when adding video enter the url path to the video.

Another solution would be to have the movie playing in a popup window from youtube, this is the best way to make it look nice:

Hi Anders,

this is a nice way of embedding youtube videos on iPad, but it doesn`t seem to work on Android...

Would you have any advices how to embed youtube video on Android, make it look as nice and have a full screen view?

Thanks,

Jarek

I spoke to our Android developers. Here's what they say:

The HW and Android's limitiation on the webview make Youtube a bit tricky to handle. The problem is that it's impossible for us to handle expanding webviews, like opening up in a window and then on click expand to fullscreen.

If you want to show a Youtube video in fullscreen, the best thing to do right now is to use the openwindow feature. This basically means that if you prefix any html link with "openwindow" ex: "openwindow- http://magplus.com"– this will instead be opened in an external browser, or in case of Youtube - the built in youtube app ( up to user to decide ).

We are working on a better handling of this right now, we'll see if we can come up with something good!

Hi Jason,

Hey Anders...

Not work for me! I ve been trying to show into a popup button a youtube video, but when I already paste the URL link (e.g.  http://www.youtube.com/embed/1rkikOjGVpM) this message appars: failed review etc etc....

It works when let away this video button... Why is so difficult to find an answer about this? :/

Hi Dany,

Sorry for your trouble. Did you set the link to youtube as a regular web link and not as a media link. Meaning, did you only use a clickable area, not a media area?

Also, are you reviewing on an Android or iOS device?

I set the link as a media link, because need a popup video appears... I know I can set the link as a web link, but all I need is to show a full size video appears when the reader click in to the play button :/

Thanks!

Danny.

Hi Dany,

It is hard to grab a fullscreen from youtube as they do want you to link to their actual website.

Thanks Amie... You were right!

I already downloaded the Application Loader software, but I dont know where to find the "zip file" you said on this line:

"There is a program in Xcode called Application Loader that you will use to submit the actual app file (the [title]_AppStore_[version].zip file in the zipped folder you downloaded from the Publish site)."

Can you help me please? :)

Thanks!!!

Dany-

The file is found on your Publish site at the bottom of the "Apps" tab after you have generated your app build.

Thanks,
